I have always found great solace and comfort in the woods. I have gone into the forest in times of great joy and times of great sorrow. No matter what the circumstance, I can find peace sitting in the outdoor theater.
I remember the year my father passed away. His loss was hard for me.
One day I climbed up his favorite mountain, I found his favorite hunting stand, which was a big moss covered rock. For many years, we always knew where to find my father during the hunting season, this rock. He always had an extra sandwich, candy bar, or cup of hot tea from his big gray thermos. I think he brought extra food to attract visitors. Everyone in our camp affectionately referred to it as "Pap's rock."
"I'll see you at Pap's rock"!
I remember climbing that mossy stand that day. I sat down and wept tears of sorrow for my beloved father. I left those woods that "Pap" loved so dearly. I felt his presence as I descended the mountain. I had a smile on my face, he was up there with me on that great rock.
"And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul".
